My Home: Summer Vibes in my Living Room Corner
I see so many designers decorate their homes using beautiful flowers & branches that they foraged from outside in their own neighborhoods. This inspired me to start looking around more on my daily walks! What foliage could look cool in one of my million vases I have at home?
My boyfriend & I take our puppy Pia out on the same routes each day, but today we decided to enter our apartment complex from a different entrance than we usually use. Lo & behold, this side of the complex has all of the COOL plants that we don't have on our side! I sent Chris back with my pruning shears & he picked the most perfect fan palm frond for me.
In this corner of my living room I tried to channel the "summer resort vibe" with lots of bright white, warm beige, stone textures, & of course the beautiful fan palm!

I originally wanted a big dried palm leaf because I love the muted color of dried flowers, but a quick google search can show you how expensive they can be. Then I thought, "Hey! This is California! There are palm trees EVERYWHERE" so why should I pay $20+ for something growing in my backyard? I must have put some good energy into the universe because I immediately found this beautiful leaf that is over 3ft tall!

I found this huge, heavy stoneware bowl on clearance from Macy's for only $11. The size and color are so perfect! That's why it was a sad sad day when I received the package with a shattered bowl inside. With all Macy's stores being closed during quarantine, I had a lot of trouble getting in touch with customer service to request a replacement. By the time they finally got back to me two weeks later, the bowl had sold out so they refunded my money.
Since the 12 or so broken pieces seemed fairly easy to put together, I decided to attempt to glue the bowl back together. I used spackle to fill all of the large gaps then sanded it down. I found a textured stone-like spray paint to match the original color, then sprayed a few coats to hide the spackled spots. TA-DA! The result is a stoneware bowl with rustic-looking cracks to give it character.

Can't have a "resort" vibe without some vintage-looking vessels. I found this vase in the floral section of Hobby Lobby for $22.49 (regular price $44.99 but currently there is 50% off all floral containers & vases). By the way, Hobby Lobby is now open for in-store shopping! It was super packed today so I think everyone missed decor shopping as much as I did!
Hobby Lobby Pro Tip: Never buy anything full price; they always have sales or coupons for at least 40% off!

I was eyeing this bright white matte ceramic floor vase from Target for months & regretted not purchasing it sooner. It was hard to find today because it was sold out online & at most of my local stores. Their online inventory checker is fairly accurate but not 100%; Target currently isn't allowing you to call in to check inventory, but if you go in store they can look up the item by DCPI & let you know a more accurate view of which stores may have it.

The cement pedestal table is actually a $40 Target planter flipped upside down. I previously had a fiddle leaf fig in there but killed it because unfortunately I am terrible at keeping house plants alive! Therefore, the planter is now better suited as a table.
