Decor Tips: Corner Styling
When starting to decorate an empty room, we all probably think to start with the biggest & most functional furniture pieces such as a couch, coffee table, bed, & dining table. Next might come the textiles, wall art, & accent furniture; however, at this point a space can still feel sort of empty & unfinished. This means it's time to decorate all of those empty corners!
2. Shelf - A wall mounted corner shelf or a free standing corner shelf can also be a great start to filling an empty corner.
3. Planter - A large plant pot with a tall tree could fill a corner on its own. A smaller pot with a small plant can sit on an accent table or plant stand.
4. Vase - Vases are great because the fillers can be changed seasonally to freshen up your space. A tall floor vase can be filled with tall branches or foliage & make a big impact on its own. A smaller vase can be filled with flowers or foliage & displayed on an accent table.
5. Lamp - A tall floor lamp can be a great addition to a dark corner; a downward facing shade could be used for tasks like reading, while a lamp with a glass shade could provide more room light. A pendant light hanging from the ceiling, or a wall sconce, could also provide overhead or whole room light depending on the type of shade. A smaller lamp could be displayed on an accent table to fill a dark corner.
6. Accent Chair - A big empty corner might be the perfect spot to set up a reading nook! Add an accent chair with a pillow, throw blanket & reading lamp.
8. Basket - Fill a basket with throw pillows & blankets to add textures to the room.
9. Mirror - Lean a tall floor mirror in a corner to make the room appear bigger & brighter! Hang a mirror on the wall adjacent to the corner to be a part of a vignette.
10. Art - Hang some art on the wall adjacent to the corner! Better yet, paint the corner walls an interesting shape such as an arch or a circle! A wood treatment like vertical slats could also elevate an empty corner without cluttering the space.
2. Go for height! If you have a low couch in the center of a wall, a tall lamp or hanging pendant light will fill the corner; the differing heights will create balance.
3. Try anchoring big furniture in the center of the room! Even with a small space, you don't always have to push your bed into the corner or your couch against the wall; centering your bed or couch could feel more balanced or help to section off a room, & also allow for decorated corners.
4. Don't hide junk in dark corners! There might be a small space next to your couch, under your desk, or even between your bed & your nightstand; avoid using these as cluttered storage spaces & add something decorative instead.
